Eagles circled above the endless wilds. I stood upon the battlements, gazing toward the horizon. Frost clung to the ancient stones as dawn cast a silver glow across the border wall that wound over the mountains before fading into the mist. Soldiers murmured, their breath drifting like smoke. Then the drums thundered. Spearmen formed ranks, their lances leveled in unison. Step, brace, thrust. Together with shield bearers, bamboo-brush fighters, polearm troops, and arquebusiers, we drilled. Only when the rising sun crowned the peaks did the dust finally settle. Here we stand, unyielding.
