Heavy Tank·HT universalThe development of a new tank for the British Army started in 1951. During research, various armaments, power units, and transmissions were considered. In January 1960, the first prototype of a new vehicle was built. In total, 6 prototypes were built that were improved several times during the trials. The continued work on the prototypes led to the Chieftain being adopted for service in 1966.
